Sod Care
Watering:
Water newly sodded lawns daily (or more often in hot/windy conditions) until it is firmly rooted in about 4-6 weeks. The sod should be kept moist during this 4-6 week time period. Once the sod has rooted, it should be watered over the next few months to maintain a healthy growing condition. After established, weather conditions will dictate the amount and frequency of watering. Make certain that the new sod has sufficient moisture to survive hot, dry or windy periods.

Mowing:
Don’t attempt to mow new sod until it is firmly rooted (approx. 4 weeks). As a general rule, don’t mow more than 1/3 of the grass height at a mowing.

Fertilizing:
New sod is heavily fertilized prior to harvest, so it’s best to wait until your new sod has been mowed at least 3-4 times before applying a standard slow release lawn fertilizer.

**During the first 3-4 weeks, avoid heavy or concentrated use of newly sodded areas. This will give the roots an opportunity to establish and will also insure that the turf remains smooth.
